Treble form for Muhairi and Smith at Meydan Spring Meet

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai visited Meydan on Saturday evening for the second Spring Meet of 2011, sponsored by Al Basti Equiworld.

Trainer Musabah Al Muhairi continued his great weekend with a treble with stable jockey Wayne Smith in the saddle on each occasion. Zafeen Speed further advertised his Dubai International Racing Carnival potential with a comfortable win in the fourth race, a 1600m handicap.

Al Muhairiís previous victory had been achieved at the hands of stable companion Fantastic Dubai who himself visited the winner`s enclosure after the second, another handicap run over 1400m. Zafeen Speed was chased home by stable companion Dr Smart, the day after Al Muhairi had saddled a 1-2 in the Listed Jebel Ali Mile.

They completed the night in the best possible manner when Paschendale led close home in the final race, a 2000m handicap under a beaming jockey.

Smith said: "The horses are running very well and we were very hopeful these would at least go close. All three are lightly-raced and Zafeen Speed could be a very nice horse for next year. They are certainly going the right way "

The same could be said for the Ismail Mohammed pair with Qamar an impressive winner of the third race, a 1200m handicap under Ahmed Ajtebi.

Earlier Air of Grace scored a last gasp win in the opening 1400m maiden under apprentice Antioco Murgia and Mohammed said: "That is very pleasing and two nice winners. Qamar is a horse we really like and the 1200m has really suited him."

David Smith, brother of Wayne, made it a great night for the family by booting home the Ali Rashid Al Raihe-trained Mufarrh in the fourth, which was also the most valuable race on the card, a second 1600m handicap.

All races were on the All-Weather.
