Preps for Dubai World Cup Day Feature Seven Group Races

Super Saturday is the final meeting before Dubai World Cup day and will be held at Meydan Racecourse this Saturday March 7, 2015 with Dubai World Cup sponsor, Emirates airline supporting the rich eight-race programme that will offer US$1.830m in prize money.

The day is annually held as the dress rehearsal for the $30m Dubai World Cup day held three weeks later. The afternoon of racing will get underway at 4.30pm and is headed by three Group 1 races, making it a highly-prized international day of racing that is befitting the final prep events for the Dubai World Cup.

Super Saturday will include the concluding rounds of the Group 1 Al Maktoum Challenges for Purebred Arabians and for Thoroughbreds. Those contests serve as the preps for the Dubai Kahayla Classic and the Dubai World Cup, respectively, and will give race fans a chance to see some of the top competitors ahead of the 20th renewal of the world’s richest day of racing on Saturday March 28, 2015.

Each of the eight races on Super Saturday correspond to a race on Dubai World Cup day and for some runners a good performance can possibly earn a coveted place in one of the final fields on the big day. The timing of Super Saturday is three weeks before Dubai World Cup day and allows the horses to compete on both occasions and provide enough time to rest in between race days.

Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial operations Centre said: “Emirates is pleased to once again sponsor Super Saturday, the penultimate meet of the Dubai World Cup Carnival. We have partnered with our friends at Meydan Racing on the Dubai World Cup since the very beginning, not only on race days, but also by bringing horses, jockeys and fans to Dubai each year for the prestigious event. The excitement experienced during Super Saturday is just a taste of what is to come on the 28th March and we hope all who attend enjoy the rest of the Dubai World Cup Carnival.”

Malih Al Basti, Meydan Group Board Member and Chairman of the Meydan Racing Committee said: “Super Saturday is exciting day as we begin the final countdown to the Dubai World Cup. We are pleased to have Emirates, a Pillar Partner and long-term supporter of horse racing, join us in bringing this very special day of racing to Dubai and the world. Emirates have been our valued partner since the beginning of the Dubai World Cup in 1996 and as we prepare to celebrate the 20th running, we are pleased to join us for this special renewal of the race.

“Emirates have helped us to build the global reputation of Super Saturday, the Dubai World Cup Carnival and the Dubai World Cup. They are a key factor in our success.”
