2011 racing kicks off in the capital on Sunday

Abu Dhabi stage the first UAE meeting of 2011 on Sunday with a six race card which concludes with a fascinating 2200m conditions race, one of five races for Purebred Arabians.‬‪

Gill Duffield saddles local debutant Menwaal who has won both his starts in the UK and will be ridden by Richard Hills who said: "He is a nice young prospect but this is his toughest task to date. We will find out a lot about him and hopefully he can have a good season."‬‪

Eric Lemartinel is enjoying a fantastic season and saddles four in the race with the Gerald Avranche-partnered Dahes perhaps looking the main hope.

The jockey said: "We have enjoyed a great start to the season and hopefully that can continue. Dahes won last time after some good efforts in defeat and can hopefully go close again."‬‪

Stable companions Baher, Rafed and AS Mushrif are others to consider, along with the ultra consistent Bareq.

He is trained by Musabah Al Muhairi and jockey Wayne Smith said: "He rarely runs a bad race and deservedly managed a victory last time at Sharjah. This is a better race but he should go well."‬‪

The preceding 1600m handicap is the only Thoroughbred race on the card with 10 declared.

The weights are headed by the Dhruba Selvaratnam-trained Mulaqat on whom Kieren Fallon replaces the injured William Buick.

Winner of the 2008 Abu Dhabi Championship (2400m), he has been running well over this trip and should go close.

Dangers are aplenty though and Ali Rashid Al Raihe`s Vito Corleone and Satish Seemar`s Birbone are just two others to consider.‬
