Dubai Show Jumping Championship Opens

France’s Michel Hecart Wins the Emirates Airline Two Phase

Dubai, UAE, January 30, 2014 - The Dubai Showjumping Championship 2014 CSI3* - W (World Cup Arab League) opened with competition in two classes on Thursday with an impressive performance by the combination of Michel Hecart and his mount Nokia De Brekka to win the Emirates Airline Two Phases, the AED 100,000 featured event. Hecart secured the win in 33.98 seconds as Ferenc Szentirmai of Ukraine on Quickdiamond was second in 38.04 seconds. Third place was earned by Hani Kamal Bisharat with Questina in 39.63 seconds. The event was contested by a total of 57 riders. The annual competition features some of the world’s top showjumpers as they will compete over three days for a share of the AED750,000 in prizemoney. Regional riders also compete for points that could help earn them a spot in the 2014 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Finals in France. This year’s show features Olympic calibre rider and horse combinations led by last year’s champion, the internationally-successful UAE Olympian, Sheikha Latifa Bint Ahmed Bin Juma Al Maktoum, and members of the Saudi Arabian 2012 Olympic bronze-medal-winning team. Held at the Emirates Equestrian Centre, the renowned CSI3*-W show is part of the prominent Arab League and is supported by Official Airline, Emirates, Official Timekeeper, Longines and Official Newspaper, Gulf News. Thursdsay’s opening class, Dubai Equestrian Club Welcome Stakes, was contested by 68 contestants and was won by Slovakia’s Luak Zaloznik. He cruised through the course in 44.14 seconds on Gayatri Van’t Welthof. Khaled Mohammed Al Emadi of Qatar was second in 46.26 seconds aboard Lucrate d’Eau Genou and close behind was the combination of Frederic David of France with Lando Boy in 46.92 seconds.The competition continues on Friday with the AED150,000 Gulf News Dubai Cup, a qualifier for the Dubai Grand Prix, and the adrenaline-charged AED65,000 Longines Speed Stakes. On Saturday, the event’s final day,the AED100,000 Longines Accumulator will serve as the opening event to the AED245,000 Emirates Airline Dubai Grand Prix. The first class on Friday is at 2:30 pm, gates open at 1:00 pm, Saturday the competition will begin at 12:00 pm and gates open at 11 am. The EEC is located next to Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa, adjacent to Dubai International Endurance City. Top regional show jumpers include Dubai Equestrian Club’s Longines FEI World Cup and Asian Games rider, Abdullah Al Marri, and fellow team members, Arif Ahmed, Omar Khoory, Mohammed Ketait and Ahmed Falaknaz as they compete alongside 2010 World Equestrian Games silver medal winner and 2012 Olympic Team Bronze Medialist, Abdullah Al Sharbatli from Saudi Arabia. Entrance is free and there will be entertainment for the entire family including pony rides, bouncy castles, children’s play area, face painting and drill rides by Dubai Pony Club and as well as dressage displays.
