New-look Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort Highlights Gulf News-Sponsored Evening

Popular Turf Contest Now Run at 1400m in Third Dubai World Cup Carnival Meeting

UAE daily newspaper, Gulf News returns to Meydan Racecourse this Thursday for a quality Dubai World Cup Carnival card, worth US$860,000 that boasts the first running of the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort over the new 1400m distance.

The classy $250,000 turf race, which was brought down from its old 1600m trip, has also been scheduled three weeks earlier in the 2014 Dubai World Cup Carnival season.

Gulf News is paying a second visit to Meydan in as many weeks after sponsoring the Racing at Meydan card last Saturday. The newspaper, which also supports the Dubai Showjumping Championships held later this month, will return to Meydan for the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen on Dubai World Cup day, a top-quality sprint race worth $2m in prize money.

“The racing season has truly set in and we are back at Meydan within ten days of our last sponsored card”, said Duleep George, Executive Director Strategy & Marketing, Gulf News. “This time we are sponsoring a Dubai World Cup Carnival card and it is very special as our Feature Race will be the first running of the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort at its new distance of 1400m. The Carnival card is a suitable warm up for the Dubai World Cup in March, when we will return with our race the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen.”

Admission is free to the public areas of Meydan Racecourse and tickets start at Dh50, gates open at 5pm and the first race starts at 6.30pm.
