New season starts at Jebel Ali this Friday

Firstly Happy Halloween to everyone.

Racing starts somewhat quietly this Friday at Jebel Ali although the entertainment will be colourful and loud. Small fields welcomes the race goers who might have a chance at landing the Pick 6 competition which is not normally done at the first meeting of the UAE season.

Nine runners take the field in Race 1 and there seems to be a good chance for Mark To Market trained by Doug Watson whose form was mostly at Meydan last season but had a decent effort at Jebel Ali, his early season form is good and he could be good enough to start the meeting well for Watson and Pat Dobbs.

The biggest field of the day with 10 runners appear in Race 2, Ali Rashid Al Raihe runs Qannaas and Dane O`Neil has chosen this runner from three runners in the silks of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum. His form at Jebel Ali is far the best of the field and it would be no surprise if he won this event, Satish Seemar and Richard Mullen have success in these type of races and Kettle River might trouble the selection.

A sprint of 1000m is Race 3 and the first three of the field of eight look to have this between them, Doug Watson`s Oasis Dancer must have a good chance after some good form at Jebel Ali last season. He could be challenged by Spin Cycle trained by Satish Seemar who had form behind Russian Rock although he was beaten a fair way, and Roicead has good form at Ireland`s Dundalk all weather course but has to carry a hefty weight here.

The maiden has a couple who have good handicap marks namely Bravo Youmzain and Daar Rashid and both these come from strong yards, there is confidence about Frobisher whose work has had people talking and Satish Seemar could have this son of Street Cry winning first time out.

Latkhaf, Firstknight could be the two to follow and the latter trained by Doug Watson will be carrying much less weight than his rivals, the former has finished in front of Firstknight before but in this first race meeting of the season this could be a great chance for the syndicate owners EERC to have a brilliant start to the season.

A concrete selection it seems for Race 6 with top weight Momaris looking the banker of the meeting, Dhruba Selvaratnam will be confident to land this race and Thomas Brown could have a first winner in the UAE with his claim of 1.5kg helping as well. It has to be said the opposition looks weak here.

The first race starts at 14.15 Hrs.
