Post Race Quotes for the Group 1 US$250,000 Dubai Kahayla Classic, sponsored by EMAAR

Adrie De Vries (TM Fred Texas, 1st) – “I was a bit concerned about the draw but I was able to get him settled nicely behind Richard Hills from there, I was never really concerned.”

Ronald Martino (trainer of the winner) – “I knew he would beat these if he was in good enough shape. Hats off to my assistant, Hector Castellano, he has been here six weeks with the horse in his hands. I expected to win. He’s just all horse, a classy animal who gives 110 per cent.”

Olivier Peslier (Seraphin du Paon, 2nd) – “He’s run a good race, but not as good as last year. Coming out the back and turning in, I was following the winner but I just couldn’t get to him.”

Ted Durcan (Timadit Al Mels, 3rd) – “Ran well. I thought I had second wrapped up, but he emptied out on me the last 100 metres. No excuses.”

Richard Hills (Versac Py, 4th) – “He ran a very good race, just a typical solid race, but in the end he just lacked a bit of the class he needed to win.”

Gerald Avranche (Nieshan, 5th) – “He’s run well but he had nothing in the final part of the race.”

Tadhg O’Shea (Kandar du Falgas, 6th) – “He got a nice trip around. It was a little messy pace wise. They were starting and stopping a bit. I followed the winner all the way and fortunately, he just quickened up a bit better than mine up the straight.”

James Doyle (Af Alghabra, 7th) – “She’s been a funny horse. She’s been hampered quite a few times so her confidence is not great. We had an OK position, but when there was a bit of josteling, she just tens to back out of it a little bit. We were a bit too far out of it off a slow pace.”

Silvestre De Sousa (Dariya , 8th) – “He went well enough for me early but the others were better and he just got tired in the final furlong.”

Darren Williams (Al Mujahaz, 9th) – “He lost his race before the start. He’s not mentally mature enough for this.”

Harran Asf (Richard Mullen, 10th) – “Travelling down the back,my fellow just dropped the bit on me. I don’t know whether it’s because the surface is playing a little slow, or he wasn;t accustomed to it but he never got back into the race.”

Wayne Smith (Albar Lotois, 11th) – “He made the early running but he got tired.”

Royston Ffrench (Sahib du Clos, 12th) – “My horse was a multiple Group 1 winner at mid-season but for some reason or another, he just didn’t run a good race today.”

Patrick Cosgrave (Fryvolous, 13th) – “He went around OK. He ran nice rhythm but it would be better for himt to get back to 1,600m.”
