International Race Meeting Offers More Than $1m in Prize Money

Meydan Pillar Partner Gulf News returns to Dubai’s flagship horse racing venue this Thursday for a meeting highlighted by two Group 3 races including the UAE 2000 Guineas and the Al Shindagha Sprint.

The card, which boasts a prize purse of more than US$1m, also sees the fillies take to the track in the Listed UAE 1000 Guineas.

Godolphin made a clean sweep of the Guineas races in 2015 with Maftool beating Mubtaahij to claim the 2015 UAE 2000 Guineas before seeing that form reversed in the UAE Derby on Dubai World Cup day. Local Time was successful in the fillies’ race before going on to claim the UAE Oaks and following up with international victory in the Group 3 Istanbul Trophy in Turkey.

The 2015 Al Shindagha Sprint went to UAE favourite and former Dubai Golden Shaheen winner, Reynaldothewizard, who started the 2016 season in fine form when landing the Listed Dubawi Stakes on January 14.

Rajeev Khanna, Commercial Director, Gulf News said: “The 2015/16 horse racing season is in full swing and we are truly proud to be associated with Meydan as Pillar Partner. The card for the February 11 race meeting, sponsored by Gulf News, looks very exciting and we are looking forward to an excellent evening of horse racing with three feature races, all leading up to the Dubai World Cup on March 26.”

Malih Al Basti, Meydan Group Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Meydan Racing Committee said: “Gulf News has been a long-term and much-appreciated sponsor of not only our racing but also other horse sport events organised by subsidiaries of Meydan Group, including the recently-concluded Dubai Show Jumping Championship. It is always a pleasure to welcome our media partners to the track and we look forward to hosting Gulf News at this classy meeting of the Dubai World Cup Carnival.”

Hospitality tickets start from AED50 with a cash bar for The Premium area situated opposite the finish line, while all inclusive packages that include house beverages are AED425 for Silks Restaurant and AED475 for four-course a la carte dining in the Winner’s Circle Restaurant.

The party continues in the Parade Ring Restaurant following the final race, with live music and AED25 drinks. Access is exclusive to hospitality ticket holders. The venue is located alongside the Parade Ring on the Ground Floor.

Visit Meydan Racecourse on Saturday, February 13 for the return of the AED300 Terrace Brunch. The family-friendly afternoon features live music and children’s entertainment. Entry is free for children under 10.
