Godolphin Mile Sponsor Supports AED835,000 Card

Meydan Pillar Partner and Godolphin Mile sponsor, Meydan Sobha makes a first visit of 2016 to Meydan Racecourse on Saturday January 16, and supports a six-race all-Thoroughbred card.

The meeting is highlighted by two turf races worth AED160,000 each, the 1200m District One Mansions sprint and the second which is held over 1600m and termed the Meydan Sobha Trophy.

Last year the 1200m race was claimed by the HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum-owned Kanaf, while the mile race went to the same owner`s Almoonqith, trained at the time by Mike de Kock.

Almoonqith went on to claim the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy at Meydan in February before continuing the Group 3 success in the Geelong Cup in Australia for new trainer, David Hayes.

Meydan Sobha will be back at the track on Dubai World Cup day to put their name behind the US1m Godolphin Mile, won in 2015 by Tamarkuz, another Sheikh Hamdan-owned runner.

An equally-split joint venture, Meydan Sobha is responsible for developing more than 47 million square feet of prime freehold land in the heart of Dubai. The first landmark project within Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City is the aptly-named District One.

This expansive development will feature luxury residences, green parklands, waterways, a high-end shopping and dining pavilion and large recreational spaces creating one of the lowest density developments in the heart of any international city.

Saeed H Al Tayer said: “Meydan Sobha’s association with the Dubai World Cup establishes the brand alongside a globally-renowned race meeting which annually attracts an elite clientele.

"This makes Meydan race nights and the Dubai World Cup an ideal vehicle with which to promote the Meydan Sobha brand of luxury developments.”

PNC Menon said: “Our partnership with Dubai Racing Club and Meydan Group is now in its third season. We see this relationship as a prime opportunity to increase our brand awareness in Dubai, where we are developing a number of high-end residential areas.

"Our luxury development, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum City - District One is situated close to Meydan Racecourse and we are delighted to highlight the incredible properties that we are creating and at the same time lend our support to horseracing - an important part of UAE culture.”

Malih Al Basti, Meydan Group Board Member and Chairman of the Meydan Racing Committee said: “The relationship between Meydan Group and Sobha is a prime example of the emphasis we place on forming strong partnerships with key global companies in order to achieve mutual goals.

"We welcome Meydan Sobha back to Meydan Racecourse this season and look forward to the Dubai World Cup day Godolphin Mile.”
