The UAE Derby yet again going to Mike De Kock with his briulliant horse Musir

QUOTES

Mike de Kock, trainer, Musir, 1st; Raihana, 2nd; Solid Choice, 13th; and Mr. Crazy Boy, 12th: “It’s a fantastic result for Sheikh Mohammed [bin Khalifa Al Maktoum], first and second and he bred them himself. It’s huge. I was never worried during the race. I said before that this was a very very good horse and I hope he’ll go very well in Australia. He now knows exactly what to do in the race.”

Christophe Soumillon, jockey, Musir, 1st: “I was on a horse with huge potential but who was carrying a lot of weight compared to the others and who was going over this distance for the first time. The race worked out for me as I was able to sit behind the good horses and he proved himself very courageous in the straight. He had to go through the gap and finished like a really good horse.”

Kevin Shea, jockey, Raihana, 2nd: “What can I say. Absolutely brilliant. She travelled well. I’m very happy. I thought I was going to win but not against Musir.”

Lanfranco Dettori, jockey, Mendip, 3rd: “We had a mixup around the turn when that horse (Timely Jazz) broke down so we had to take evasive action. He ran an honest race and I’m pleased with him. He was beaten by two nice horses.”

Ted Durcan, jockey, Enak, 4th: “He ran a solid race. He went on at the same pace for the last 800 metres but it was a good race.”

Ahmed Ajtebi, jockey, Frozen Power, 5th: “The race was fast, then slow, then fast. Horses were ducking in, out. In the end, it was a good horse who won the race.”

Aaron Gryder, jockey, Siyaadah, 6th: “I had a nice comfortable position. I was happy at the 800 but he didn’t quicken up like I hoped but it was still an honest effort.

Tiago Pereira, jockey, Oroveso, 7th: “Things didn’t go right. I think he’s lame.”

Olivier Peslier, jockey, Della Barba, 8th: “I’m behind the leader and it was fast. He was running well but after the last 600, there was no response. He was one-paced.”

Corey Brown, jockey, Mr. Crazy Boy, 12th: “At the 600 metres, he got knocked around by the horse which broke down and he couldn’t recover from that.”

Keagan Latham, jockey, Solid Choice, 13th: “He led. He was there to do a job and he did it.”
